[Prev|Next|Index] Thu, Feb 22, 1996 dan mcmullen fear? or fun! By dan mcmullen i was once taught in a sociology class that the laws of this country were designed to make *every* person a criminal in one way or another. consequently, the vast majority of us citizens live in fear of "being caught". fear, the professor said, was a tool to enforce social norms. i didn't completely believe this at the time. now i have to admit that it seems to be true. others have described the illogical and unconstitutional nature of the Communications Decency Act better than i possibly could. i simply wish to ask us all: do we want to live in constant fear? kinda seems like it spoils all the great fun we've been having. i say lets focus on the joy in the *connectedness* the net offers. there are creative, positive solutions to the challenges this new medium presents. 'nuff said. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Twenty-Four Hours of Democracy]
